Born in 1962 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Graduated from the economic department of Kyiv University in 1984, obtained PhD in economics from Kyiv University in 1987, graduated from Wharton school of Business in 1995, MBA in finance and accounting.

In 1991-1992, worked at the National Bank of Ukraine as acting head of the International banking department.

International banking career started at Bankers Trust in New York and London in 1995, followed by Credit Suisse First Boston in London, Kyiv, Zurich (1996 - 2004), Deutsche Bank in London, Kyiv, Moscow (2004 - 2008) and Sberbank in Moscow, Kyiv, Zurich, London, Abu Dhabi (2008 - February 2022), responsible for corporate investment banking business, and development of international business in the Middle East.
